Facebook and the Hobbi Project

Test on a new app for hobbies

Facebook is launching a new app: an initiative announced last year and focused on new ideas, to see how users react to it. The application was christened Hobbi and allows users to share photos and videos showing their hobbies and projects.

Hobbi is currently available in the United States, Colombia, Belgium, Spain and Ukraine, but may also make its debut in other countries in the future.

Its clearly inspired by Pinterest, but is not just a simple bulletin board to draw on for new ideas. The new Facebook project aims to rescue all hobbyists who want to organize content related to their projects and will monitor the progress the user makes over time. The topics are divided by themes such as cooking, art, gardening, etc.

Hobbi is a simpler tool than the Instagram Stories and does not have a real social component, other than the possibility of making short videos to share with friends once the project is finished.

Facebook launched Hobbi shortly after the debut of Tangi, the Google proposal which focuses on hobbies and DIY content. However, BigG's is a different application, as it is closer to a Tiktok for hobbyists, i.e. the creation of immediate videos.

The fact that both companies have decided to throw themselves headlong on hobbies and DIY, makes it clear how much potential there is still in the sector despite the dominance of Pinterest.
